Europe, Iran and the UN Meet in Geneva to Revive Diplomacy Amid Israel Attacks
On June 20, 2025, foreign ministers from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany held urgent diplomatic talks in Geneva with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, aiming to defuse mounting tensions between Israel and Iran. The high-stakes meeting, attended by United Nations envoys, comes amid escalating airstrikes, rising civilian casualties, and growing fears of a wider regional war.
Iran signaled limited openness to diplomacy by offering to restrict its uranium enrichment activities, a key concern for Western powers. However, Tehran firmly rejected the inclusion of the United States in any negotiations until Israel halts its ongoing military operations. Iranian officials reiterated that meaningful dialogue would be impossible under active conflict conditions, especially as Israeli airstrikes continue to target Iranian infrastructure, including a reported strike on a nuclear scientist and defense facilities inside Iran.
